ReliaWeather.com http://reliaweather.com The Leader in Reliable Weather en-us Wintry Weather far from Over http://reliaweather.com/forum This winter season brought snow to all four corners of the Continuous U.S. Now, as February comes to a close and another round of precipitation treks through the Midwest, it is safe to say the wintry weather is far from over. Despite a moderate El Nino, the jet stream has been all over the map. Typically during an El Nino year of this magnitude, a trough deepens across the Western two-thirds of the Continuous U.S. Indirectly, the Polar Jet retreats north and a ridge builds across the North Atlantic. The resulting setup produces abundant moisture across the Pacific Northwest and Southwest. This year however, the Polar Jet Stream has produced wintry weather as far south as Dallas, Mobile and the Florida Pan-Handle, while bringing reinforcing cold air (by as much as -10 Degrees Celsius) to portions of the Midwest. Often times, this storm track produces the most volatile storms for the East Coast and New England States. This appears to be the case again, as model guidance eludes to the jet stream taking a southern track across the Gulf States in the weeks that lie ahead. Winter Storm Update http://reliaweather.com Winds to increase from the northwest through Midnight tonight... An area of Low Pressure, currently situated over Central Indiana, will move northeast through Midnight tonight. Sustained northwest winds of 15-20 mph, with gusts near 30 will be possible through Wednesday, resulting in near blizzard conditions. The combination of strong winds and newly fallen snow will produce significant blowing and drifting, causing reduced visibilities of a quarter-mile at times. By Wednesday morning, total storm accumulations will range from 6-10 inches, with locally 12-inch amounts possible across extreme northwest portions of Defiance and Williams Counties. An additional 1-2 inches of snowfall is possible across the entire region during the day Wednesday, before precipitation tapers-off to flurries. Winter Storm Warning in effect for NW Ohio http://reliaweather.com/forum A WINTER STORM WARNING remains in effect for Northwest Ohio until 7 PM EST Wednesday. Precipitation will come in two waves. The first will produce light-to-moderate snow through 1 PM EST. A second, more-potent area of Low Pressure will then bring heavier snow to the area by 4 PM EST. Snowfall amounts of 3-5 inches are expected along and north of Route 30 by early this evening. Winter Storm Warning issued for NW Ohio http://reliaweather.com The National Weather Service in North Webster has issued a WINTER STORM WARNING for all of Northwest Ohio, effective from 12 AM EST Tuesday through 7 PM EST Wednesday. ReliaWeather.com is forecasting the increased likelihood of heavy snow, with accumulations of 6-inches to as much as a foot of snow west of I-75 and north of Route 30 affecting Defiance, Fulton, Henry, Paulding, Putnam and Williams Counties in Northwest Ohio. Elsewhere, a general 4-8 inches of accumulating snowfall can be expected. Perhaps the most dangerous aspect of this storm will be the strong northwest winds, which will cause significant blowing and drifting of newly fallen snow on west-to-east roadways. This will ultimately create near blizzard and whiteout conditions during the day Tuesday and Wednesday.
